Just five go to post for the feature 0-85 handicap for 3yos over 1m3f at Kempton on Wednesday and it doesn’t look an attractive race to bet in. Fortunately there are options elsewhere such as old BILLY MILL in the 0-70 handicap over 1m at 6.00. Rod Millman’s gelding has finished out of the frame in all four starts since making a successful return from five months off over 7f here in January (his only previous run at this level), but as a result is back off the same mark as for that victory. Most of his wins have come over the shorter trip, but he does have winning form over course and distance and, with no obvious pace angle, this may not be strongly run in any case.

LION OF MALI can take the 0-75 handicap for 3yos over 7f at 7.00. James Fanshawe’s gelding bids for a hat-trick after wins at Wolverhampton in February and over this course and distance a fortnight ago. Both victories were gained by narrow margins (the latest was by a head), but that makes it hard for the handicapper to keep tabs on him. Therefore another 3lb rise may prove lenient, especially as the stable’s runners often continue to improve with experience.

The closing 0-75 handicap over 6f at 8.30 can go to EM FOUR. Jamie Osborne’s gelding returned to winning form over course and distance a fortnight ago with the reopposing pair Brazen Idol and Serenity Dream back in second and sixth respectively. A 3lb rise for that doesn’t look harsh, especially as he remains in the same grade, while Saffie Osborne seems to get on particularly well with him (4415131).

Over at Dundalk AMEMRI can take the 6f handicap at 5.45. David Marnane’s mare has gained six of her seven course wins over 7f, including when suddenly bouncing back to form a fortnight ago, but her other course success came over this trip a year ago. A 6lb rise for that recent victory still leaves her 5lb lower than when winning on turf at Limerick last summer, while with a solid pace very likely this will probably be run to suit a strong stayer at the trip.
